Furoshiki are traditionally used as wrapping cloths, commonly used to carry lunches or to wrap gifts. However, this one can have many uses. This particular Furoshiki is decorated with Sashiko, a Japanese hand-stitched embroidery technique, was often used to reinforce fabric. Simple sashiko stitching was pivotal for boro patching and mending clothes but evolved into intricate embroidering of garments.
